Almost all work related to assignments in the academic and professional world is done using a laptop or PC.

Therefore, the performance of this object must always be maintained so that it is ready to be used every time to do the tasks that you get.

One of the most effective ways to maintain the performance of this important object is to clean up trash on the laptop regularly.

In this article, I will talk about how to clean garbage files on laptops using Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7.

3 Ways to Clean Up Trash Files in Windows 10, 8, and 7

Even though it has a very small size, junk files that accumulate can significantly hamper your laptop's performance because it is closely related to the system.

When you start a program, the boot process can take longer if there are many temporary files that are still stored in the system.

Almost every program generates temporary files or junk files, and not all programs will delete these annoying sets of files automatically.

Therefore, it is very important to know how to clean up junk files in Windows 10, 8, or 7, depending on which OS you are using. The following is the full discussion.

1. Clean the Trash on the Laptop Using Disk Cleanup

How to clean junk files on laptops, the first recommendation for me is to use the built-in features of Windows. This feature, called Disk Cleanup, is specifically made for cleaning HDDs.

This feature will detect files that are classified as junk files in your laptop, and with just one click Dick Cleanup will clean your laptop.

This feature can be used by users of Windows 7 to Windows 10, and how to operate it is the same. Here are the steps you can follow to use Disk Cleanup.

  • Step 1 - Click start and when the start menu appears, open Disk Cleanup by typing the name of this program in the search bar.
  • Step 2 - After the search process that you have performed brings up the appropriate program, click on the program icon to start using it.
  • Step 3 - Select the partition you want to clean, then press OK.
  • Step 4 - Wait a few moments until the program finishes scanning unnecessary files on the selected partition.
  • Step 5 - Select which data you want to clean, after finished selecting click OK.
The cleaning process using Disk Cleanup is quite effective for reducing unused files on the laptop or computer you are using.

The categorization of junk files performed by this program is quite accurate, and the scanning process carried out can detect junk files in certain programs that are difficult to find manually.

2. How to Clean Up Trash Files on a Laptop by Cleaning Temporary Files

In addition to using Disk Cleanup, there is another way to clean up the trash on Windows 10, 8, or 7 default OS laptops that you can use.

Different from before where the junk files will be automatically searched for and categorized, this second method allows you to select and delete specific junk files.

Here are some steps you can take to clean up the trash on your laptop by using the command on Run.

  • Step 1 - Open the Run program by clicking on the start icon, and type run in the search field.
  • Step 2 - After the search process shows the appropriate program, click on the program to open a command window in the Run program.
  • Step 3 - Type the command % temp% in this program then press enter.
  • Step 4 - This command will show the temporary files that are stored on the laptop or on the computer you are using.
As you can see in the example image that I included, this command will show tens to hundreds of temporary files stored on your laptop.

You can delete all of these files, or if there is a certain program that you want to keep the temporary file , you can find it first and not include it in the deletion process.

This second way is recommended if you really want to maintain temporary files in certain programs.

If not, it's better to use a way to clean up the trash on the laptop first because it's more practical in improving laptop performance.

3. How to Clean Trash on a PC or Laptop with Ccleaner

If you are still not satisfied with the two methods I previously included, you can use a third-party program to clean up the trash on your laptop.

The program that I recommend is CCleaner. This program has been used extensively throughout the world for cleaning laptops and PCs.

Its good performance and simple usage make CCleaner a favorite of many computer users to date.

Here are the steps you can follow in the series on how to clean junk files on a laptop using CCleaner.

  • Step 1 - Download and install the CCleaner program on your laptop or on the PC that you are using. For those who do not have it can be directly downloaded via the link below.
  • Step 2 After the installation process is complete, open the CCleaner program. Pay attention to the part on the left, click whichever part you want to clean.
If you are not sure you want to delete any file, you can leave this section. Some default checks from CCleaner are good enough to clean up trash on your laptop.
  • Step 3 - After finishing selecting which files you want to delete, click the Analyze button located at the bottom left. Wait a few moments until the analysis process is complete.
  • Step 4 - Click on Run Cleaner on the bottom right to start deleting unneeded files on your laptop
In addition to antivirus programs, this one program into one software required to download for laptop users and computers.

Good performance, its size is not too big, its essential function is also the reason why this program should be installed as an additional program on your laptop.

The final word

That is some ways to clean up the trash on laptops that can be used both for users of Windows 7, 8, and Windows 10.

The three ways that I shares are equally effective in deleting useless files while increasing the performance of your laptop, just choose which one is most suitable.
